Moving the pedals/wheel on our 111CS build has me more aware of something that many of us drivers have simply tolerated over the years. Driver ergonomics are not always symmetric on road cars!
I have been racking up miles on a 1992 Porsche 911 (964) that we did a mild engine rebuild. These miles have been easy drives - not hard canyon runs! One thing that occurred to me is how offset the steering wheel AND pedals are on this car. See the image below:
Our 996RR has better steering wheel position but the pedals remain offset. The Elise is similar to the 996. Our Miata is probably the best that I drove recently but our Drakan and the BAC Mono are better still.
The Emira 420 that I saw at the Lotus House in Monterey has good ergos. I recently sat in a 849 Testarossa and it was excellent - though it only had two pedals.
Fitting various sized drivers is a challenge for designers and engineers when you take into consideration issues like safety and comfort. It is certainly not an easy task. I'm sure, deleting the clutch pedal makes the job more forgiving.
Fortunately, it seems, many of us drivers adjust so that we can enjoy all the dynamics on offer from our favorite cars!
